Peopleplace is currently trying to fund a Trike Path, using grant money/donations through local foundations. The Trike Path Project would allow our children a safe, enclosed space that would be an expansion to our existing playground. This area would allow for trike riding and provide a larger space for outdoor exercise. Shelley Mills and Susan Chadwick are currently forming a special sub-committee to head up this project. If anyone is interested in helping out, please contact either Susan, mdmainer@roadrunner.com, or Shelley at cmmsem@verizon.net.

It is registration time at Peopleplace for the 2008-09 school year. Current families have through March to enroll, and then we will welcome new families to register. Please contact the school for more information.
Our Open House is scheduled for April 12 in the morning. This is a great opportunity to explore the facility, meet teachers and have your questions about our programs answered.

Congratulations to Peopleplace! We are very proud to announce that the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs has granted Peopleplace accreditation under its revised program criteria. In order to achieve this honor the school had to meet at least 80% of the criteria in each of 10 standards. The program exceeded 100% in all but two catagories. The accreditation is valid through 2012. Peopleplace staff spent over two years in a rigorous review of all aspects of our programs in preparation for an onsite visit by a program assessor from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. NAEYC accreditation is considered the highest mark of quality for early childhood programs. Peopleplace has had the distinction of being accredited by NAEYC since 1987, and is one of the first Maine programs to be re-accredited under the new system.

Peopleplace is a cooperative preschool where parents are partners in the education of their child.
Our programs, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, are guided by the following principles:
- Recognition that each child is inherently competent, capable, and curious - full of ideas, inventiveness, and interest in relationships.
- Understanding the tremendous impact environment has on childhood development and learning, and leveraging it to facilitiate education.
- Providing a vehicle for enhancing interactions among teachers, parents, and children by actively observing and documenting the experiences and learning of each child as they develop.
- Using the continually emerging and evolving interests of the children as the basis for guiding and shaping the curriculum.
The school is located in beautiful Camden, Maine and is licensed by the State of Maine as a “childcare facility.” It serves children from 14 neighboring towns and is accredited by the National Association of Early Childhood Programs. Peopleplace is active and current in its accreditation processes.
